I was originally relying on Alsa alone but found that Pipewire was more consistent and needs less tweaking, IE none at all so far for Supertux. The client works just fine and I installed KDE Plasma just so that I had a floating DE that worked with the client's windows.
I did try to make a file, specifically to force alsa to use certain settings as per a user on the Arch forum, and it worked for Supertux but not Cgoban 3: Cgoban continues to refuse to give sound when stones are played, though. Audio works fine for Youtube, SuperTux, Retux and almost everything else.
